Papa John’s apologizes for racial slur and fires employee

Whether or not it’s a big thing is perhaps debatable, Papa John’s has apologized and fired the employee who made the mistake.

In fact I wouldn’t have been attracted to the issue if my friend hadn’t mentioned it in an article that he had written. He is a professional and writes stuff for many client companies- Appco, Sirius Star Marketing etc.

It all happened when a cashier, a 16-year-old school girl who wrote the bill named the customers in the bill as ‘lady chinky eyes’. The lady, on seeing the bill later, was irked at the reference. She tweeted it and expressed her anger saying ‘Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes’.

Papa John’s came up soon with apologies on Twitter and Facebook and they have fired the cashier too. There of course are people working at Papa John’s who think that the whole thing was blown out of proportion and was done to get some attention. They say that in the crowd they often do this to identify people and hence mentioning someone by the colour of their dress or their eyes is just a casual thing and there was nothing racial in it.

Well, what has happened has happened. It’s now news, the girl has been fired and Papa John’s has perhaps lost a customer as the lady who got the receipt seems no longer interested in going there.
