Fire destroys historic tree

This piece of news would appeal to lovers of history.

A friend working with 3D Organisation mailed me this bit of news; and I want to share it. A tree in Central Florida, which was roughly 3,500 years old and hence historic, was destroyed by a fire.

The tree, which is one of the world’s oldest cypress trees, was named ‘The Senator’ and burnt for several hours on January 16, Monday. It’s reported that first a 20-foot top section of the tree fell after being burnt and then the rest of the tree too collapsed.

Though the causes of the fire are unknown and are being investigated, arson has been ruled out.

The tree, which stood tall in the Big Tree Park in Longwood, was named ‘The Senator’ after a state senator of the 1920s who donated the park to the county.
